Meet the Faculty
Greg Eaton is the InnerSections Executive Director. He is also Founder and Principal of Eaton and Associates and has decades of experience working with leadership development, change processes and organizational systems in three sectors: university administration, church/not for profit and business.
For 12 years, Greg served as the Co-Chief Executive Officer of The Meeting Group, Inc., a corporate meeting planning and global incentive program company. He was also the Co-Chief Executive Officer of Trade-Winds Management Group, Ltd, based in Waikoloa, Hawaii. His work in academia focused on administration and included counseling and course instruction.
He has been a facilitator for the Center for Courage & Renewal since 2007. He received his certification as a coach through Integral Coaching Canada. He holds three master’s degrees: University Administration, Theology and Psychology.
Barbara Hummel works with executives to become more effective and authentic in their leadership and collaboration efforts. The consistent thread to her professional background is in seeing possibilities: growing organizations from ideas, adapting approaches to meet needs, bringing in new perspectives.
She has had her consulting practice since 1997, working with a diverse client base bridging all sectors. The decade prior she helped develop and directed MAQIN, a quality improvement network of nearly 300 businesses and organizations in Madison, Wisconsin, that received international attention.
She has been affiliated with the Center for Courage & Renewal since 1999, serving on its Board of Directors from 2009-2015. She has co-facilitated Courage offerings in the Midwest since 2002.
Barb has a master’s degree in counseling and personnel services from the University of Missouri-Columbia and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Denison University.
Cliff Penwell, principal of OriginalVoice Consulting, LLC, and senior consultant with Dialogos International, has over 30 years of experience as a master facilitator, retreat leader, consultant, coach and leadership trainer.
For the past 15 years, he has specialized in facilitating change processes and offering leadership training in diverse environments ranging from Fortune 100 companies to global aid initiatives to nonprofit organizations. He has guided thousands of executives in dialogue sessions, leadership trainings, facilitator workshops strategic planning and Diversity and Inclusion initiatives.
Cliff bases his practice — and his life’s work — on his ability to create contexts that are both safe enough to speak the truth and honest enough that outmoded habits of action can be transformed. He travels widely, offering large-systems organizational interventions, coaching, and leadership development. He is a founding facilitator of the Center for Courage & Renewal’s Courage to Lead for Social Impact program. He also is a board member of the Right Use of Power Institute, dedicated to helping people and organizations build power in ways that benefit all.
Greg Simmons is passionate about creating workplaces with high levels of trust, openness, and respect, bringing many years of personal leadership development experience to the InnerSections faculty. In working with others his goal is to help them find their own truth and congruence between their values and their actions. Greg was the CEO of MetaStar, a nonprofit healthcare quality improvement consulting firm, for 32 years. During his time there he took on national leadership positions in his industry and chaired a learning collaborative comprised of colleagues from similar organizations.
In addition to his work at MetaStar he has been active in his local community as a trustee of numerous social service agencies and educational institutions. He has a master’s degree in health services administration and a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Wisconsin.
Greg has been affiliated with The Center for Courage and Renewal since 2013 and has participated in four of the Center’s programs in leadership and trust building. With his support, other executives from his company have completed the Trusted Leader program and are incorporating its principles into their daily work.
